Neillsville Students Get Ready for Summer School, Part 1

Wednesday, April 27th, 2016 -- 11:42 AM

-Students at the Neillsville School District will soon have Summer School to look forward to again.

I spoke with John Gaier, Neillsville’s District Administrator, and he told me when Summer School is this year and the types of programs they have to offer.

"The Summer School Courses will be from June 13th-July 8th. They start at 8:30am and they're done at Noon. We have a number of different courses. Everything from things like Kindergarten Readiness for our youngest kids. Academic courses that kids can take to avoid summer backslide during the long summer break. We have enrichment courses, we have a number of fine arts courses that we offer. We also have healthy activity courses that we offer. So, we have just a slew of things that kids can choose from. And I did not mention technology, which is also a popular course here during the summer."

My Gaier than explained how funding for Summer School works.

"During the summer school time, we keep track of attendance and we keep track of the number of minutes that the kids attend. And then we can use that in formula to add those numbers into our student count in the fall, which increases our revenue cap. So, that is how it is funded. So, the funding actually comes after the Summer School Session."

Mr. Gaier recommended that parents and grandparents pick up a flyer and see the types of programs they have to offer and encourages them to enroll their kids in Neillsville’s Summer School Program.
