More People Reported Sick from Suspected Norovirus Outbreak in Marshfield

Friday, April 22nd, 2016 -- 11:30 AM

-More people have reported getting sick due to a suspected outbreak of the norovirus in Marshfield.

According to numbers released by the Wood County Health Department Wednesday afternoon, 21 people said they had gotten sick in connection with the outbreak. That was 5 more than the 16 potential cases originally reported. Health officials said that as many as 270 people could have been exposed to the virus. The exposure is believed to have occurred at a corporate party held Saturday at a Marshfield hotel.

The virus causes flu symptoms including stomach ache, vomiting, low fever, headaches and more. You can help prevent spreading the illness by washing your hands and cleaning contaminated areas with bleach. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is assisting the Wood County Health Department with the investigation.
