Neillsville Woman Found Guilty of Mistreating a Puppy

Friday, April 15th, 2016 -- 12:24 PM

-A Neillsville woman has been found guilty of animal mistreatment.

At the end of November 2014, a witness saw Amber Parsons pull her puppy into the air by its leash. The witness also saw her slam the puppy into a pile of gravel. At that point, the man, a neighbor, insisted that she give the puppy to him so he could take it to the vet. When she refused an altercation occurred, but he was able to get the dog away from her. This all began when Parsons lost her temper after finding the puppy chewing on her couch. The puppy was taken to the vet and a fracture was found on its hip. A cast was also put on its leg.

Before a jury trial began yesterday, the District Attorney and the Defense offered arguments to the judge in regards to questioning of the neighbor that took the puppy from her. The DA felt it wasn’t necessary to get into how forcefully the neighbor may have took the dog from Parsons, but the Defense felt it was relevant to his character. The judge agreed, but did say that neither side could offer any questioning in regards to whether or not the neighbor should have been charged for taking the dog from her aggressively. The DA also stated that a deal had been offered which would have seen Parsons serve 1 year probation with 20 days of jail time as a condition or 60 days in jail. Parsons had rejected the deal, so the jury trial began. In the end, she was found guilty animal mistreatment and disorderly conduct. A sentencing date hasn’t been set at this time.
