Culvert Repairs Begin on Highway 73 North of Thorp on Monday

Friday, April 15th, 2016 -- 9:30 AM

-Work will begin April 18 to replace a failing culvert pipe that has resulted in the closure of Highway 73 north of Thorp.

According to the Wisconsin DOT, the culvert failed in late March, forcing the closure of Highway 73 in the area. A new culvert is expected to be delivered to the site Monday and the Taylor County Highway Department will begin the replacement process. In addition to the failed culvert, crews will replace a second culvert just north of the first which is showing signs of severe deterioration. The replacements are expected to be completed within two weeks.

The closure is located in Taylor County 5 miles north of Thorp. Highway 73 remains open through the city of Thorp. Until the culvert is replaced, the road will remain closed with an official detour using State Highways 27, 29 and 64 through Clark, Chippewa and Taylor Counties.
