Clark County District Attorney Not Seeking Re-Election this Fall

Wednesday, April 6th, 2016 -- 8:42 AM

-Clark County District Attorney Lyndsey Boon-Brunette has stated that she will not run for re-election this fall.

Here is Lyndsey's full release on the matter:

"In the 2012 election, the citizens of Clark County gave me the honor and opportunity to represent them as their elected District Attorney and I thank you for that. However, after tremendous thought and consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election in 2016. I have a young, growing family and this is the right time for me to focus and spend more time with my children. I will complete my term in office that ends in January 2017 when a newly elected District Attorney is sworn in.

I greatly enjoy my work as a prosecutor and believe the Office of District Attorney has served the public well during my term. Representing the citizens of Clark County has been one of the most rewarding times in my life. I have met many remarkable people. I have stood by many going through some of the worst days in their lives and to be given their trust is humbling.

Thank you to my husband, Jake, my family, friends, and constituents, for prayers, love, and support during my campaign and my time serving the public. I specifically want to thank Jake and my children for the sacrifices that they have made. Family members of law enforcement oriented positions are greatly impacted by the sacrifices, uncertainty, and time commitments that accompany a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week type position, such as the office of District Attorney. The job of District Attorney is a rewarding one, but is also an office that state-wide has suffered in being provided with sufficient staffing and resources to handle an ever-growing caseload both in numbers and complexity.

Thank you to my dedicated staff for working with me to move the office forward all while being steady and dedicated public servants. I have enjoyed working with dedicated professionals in the court system, law enforcement, social service professions, and corrections. Clark County is fortunate to have the services of these public servants and I am fortunate to have worked alongside them to ensure the safety of our great Clark County communities.

Writing this press release was the hardest thing that I've done in a very long time because I truly love the work I do each day and have a strong passion for it. I'm certainly not dissatisfied in any way with my time in office and will surely miss it. I look forward to the next opportunity to be a public servant and advocate for the people of Clark County."
