Clark County's Health Rankings, Part 3

Monday, April 4th, 2016 -- 1:34 PM

-A new county health rankings report was recently released by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

All though there are clear opportunities for improvement, Clark County has assets and resources that can help it strive to be a healthier county. I spoke with the Director of the Clark County Health Department, Bob Leischow, and he explained some of the initiatives/programs Clark County is doing to help the county become healthier.

"The Health Department in partnership with a variety of organizations has based its programming on available data, input from stakeholders and collaboration with partners. For instance, to address the mental and behavioral health needs with Clark County, the Mental/Behavioral Health Task Force was established in 2013 and is comprised of a multi-sector group that is represented by individuals from health, health care, human services, faith-based organizations, local schools, a community based organization, and law enforcement."

"The MBHTF has identified gaps as well as opportunities for improvement, engaged in evidence-based suicide prevention training and, in turn, provided training in the community, and meets routinely to discuss strategies that further address the identified opportunities for improvement. Moving forward, it is anticipated that the MBHTF will expand its outreach to the community, adopt new evidence-based strategies and continue to develop its membership."

That’s just one of many projects the county health department is working on and if you’d like to learn more you can contact the Clark County Health Department over the phone, by e-mail, through their website or Facebook. Bob also stated that this survey is done every year and they are fairly consistent with the items they look at.

Coming up on Tuesday, we’ll hear about those that can use this report.
