Soda Consumption in the US Plummets
Sunday, April 3rd, 2016 -- 6:07 AM
Soda consumption in the US plummeted to a 30 year low last year as soda sales declined for the 11th straight year. The per capita consumption of soda was about 650 8-ounce servings in 2015 which is the lowest since 1985. Industry experts say soft drinks have fallen out of favor with consumers as they seek healthier alternatives.
Diet soda sales suffered the steepest decline as many consumers are also turning away from artificial sweeteners. Many juice based alternatives are on the rise, but so were a handful of soda brands like Sprite and Fanta. (NBC)
