Representative Bob Kulp's Listening Session in Neillsville, Part 1

Friday, April 1st, 2016 -- 11:08 AM

-Representative Bob Kulp appeared in Neillsville for a listening session on Thursday along with his guest Senator Terry Moulton.

The two appeared at the American Legion. There were only a few people in attendance, but the covered several topics. The first was in regards to road construction and instituting a tax to help with county and state roads.

Bob: "We decided on the Assembly side it would look like, if we did that, they would have to choose between either the wheel tax or the sales tax and not be able to do both. And that's kind of where they negotiations, I think, crumbled apart. I'm a supporter of the bill. I think it's a phenomenal idea. I think we ought to give the county the flexibility to do that. The way it was structured, at least on the Assembly side, was 4 years and county board can make the decision and after 4 years it would sunset and then they would need to go to referendum. I thought it is a good way for those who are elected currently to say, we really need this and lets do it and then it will go away."

Terry: "I was a co-sponsor on the bill also and I thought it was a good idea. I know there was some concerns about the fairness of it between the counties in that some don't have a good retail base."

Coming up on Monday, we’ll hear Bob and Terry’s thought on education.
