Neillsville Woman Fails to Appear in Court for Animal Neglect

Friday, April 1st, 2016 -- 9:21 AM

-A Neillsville woman charged with animal neglect failed to appear in Clark County Court on Thursday.

Back in August of 2015, authorities received a report of animals running at large on a farm near Neillsville. They discovered that the animals were without water in 90 degree heat and humidity. After obtaining a search warrant, authorities returned and discovered over 43 dogs living in deplorable conditions in the home. They also removed 6 horses who were underfed and in poor medical condition. Carolyn Christie has been charged with 26 counts in relation to this incident including intentionally mistreating animals.

She was scheduled to appear in court for a motion hearing Thursday morning, but she didn’t show. Her attorney did not argue against a bench warrant being issued, but stated that his client should be at the hearing in regards to the motion. After the warrant was issued, online court records indicate Christie did appear in court later that day. The warrant was removed, her signature bond was reinstated and a plea/sentencing hearing was set for the end of this month.
