(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin's nine-day gun-deer season opens on Saturday, and state wildlife officials are enthusiastic about the prospects for 2020.

However, even hunters need to be mindful of the risks of social gatherings amid the pandemic, according to State DNR Secretary Preston Cole.  "The 2020 deer hunt will be different as it relates to our interactions with family and friends," Cole said. "With COVID-19, we all must work together to keep our communities healthy and safe this deer season. To help stop the spread of this virus, I want to remind folks that they should hunt with people from their household. Equally important is firearm safety which is essential to any responsible hunting trip so we can all get back to our families safely."

The DNR's website states that bonus antlerless harvest authorizations remain available in many counties. As of November 16, sales for gun, bow, crossbow, sports and patron licenses reached just over 590,000.  Meanwhile, hunters are reminded that registering their deer after harvest is required by 5 p.m. the day following recovery.  The gun-deer season ends on November 29.
