Lead Abatement Certification Training Available for Clark County Contractors

Wednesday, November 18th, 2020 -- 6:00 AM

-This training is to allow local construction contractors, and other related home repair/remodeling and cleaning companies obtain the required training to remove lead based paint and building components that contain lead based paint, such as windows, doors, siding, floors, etc.

This certification, which is being offered by the Clark County Health Department, is comparable to having the asbestos certification training.  In some cases, they work with families where lead based paint has been identified in the home and lead hazards are present. In order for a contractor to do this work, they need to have the required lead abatement certifications. Clark County Health Department has signed a contract with the State of Wisconsin Lead Poisoning Prevention Program to pay for the cost of training for these workers and their companies, so they can do the work. They will be hosting the training right here in Clark County, most likely at the Court House in Neillsville or another County owned facility that is convenient for everyone to attend. They will announce the exact date or dates soon, but are looking to have this in January or February of 2021.  Individuals will need to complete the full training. If they already have the renovator certification, then they just need to finish the remainder of the abatement series. Their goal is to certify at least 3 companies, and train three or more employees at each company to become a lead abatement supervisor. If there is enough interest, they will obtain more funding to train more companies and their employees.

There are many qualified contractors in the area that they would like to have complete this training so they can have a company that the community knows and trusts to do the work. Having this available locally will make these projects run more smoothly and will be completed as it is required in a much more timely manner. The other benefit, is that they have funding available to qualified homeowners to pay for at least 80% of the cost of the abatement work to make their home safe from lead. So not only can we pay for the contractors to get the training, they can also help to pay the contractors to do the work.  This has been a long time in the making and they are finally to the point where they can make a full announcement to the community.
