Over $160,000 Worth of Wisconsin Cheese Products Stolen this Past Month

Monday, January 25th, 2016 -- 9:26 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Authorities are trying to determine why over $160,000 in cheese products have been stolen in two different Wisconsin cities this month.

Reports say the first incident was reported in Marshfield about two weeks ago when $90,000 worth of parmesan cheese went missing from a storage facility. Then on Friday, someone drove off with a semi-trailer filled with $70,000 worth of dairy products in Germantown. The truck was later recovered near Milwaukee, but the products were not found.

Investigators do not believe the two crimes are related. And if the cheese is found in either of the cases, it cannot be sold for human consumption. Two years ago, about 42,000 pounds of muenster cheese was stolen from a factory in Cashton. The suspect in that case had planned to sell the cheese to out of state retailers.
