Committee Approves Amendment For Wolf Population Controls in 4 States

Saturday, January 23rd, 2016 -- 9:01 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -A legislative attempt is now underway to remove gray wolves from the federal Endangered Species list.

This week, the U.S. Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee approved an amendment to a bill that would give individual states the authority to managed their own wolf population goals in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Wyoming.

The amendment also prohibits courts from intervening on wolf status in those states. In 2014, a federal judge ordered to reinstate federal protections on wolves after several states established hunting seasons to reduce the numbers of animals in certain areas. The measure must clear the full Senate. The House has already passed a similar bill last year.
