CESA Contract, Out-of-State Field Trip and More at Neillsville School Board Meeting

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 -- 9:41 AM

-The Neillsville School Board approved the next school year's CESA Contract at their meeting on Monday.

There was a 5.8% increase on the contract, but that was mainly due to a health insurance change which is beyond the board/district's control. They also approved an out-of-state field trip in July of 2016 for the FFA to go to Tennessee. The also approved the order of the two board members up for re-election this spring on the ballot. Peggy Grap is the first and Sue Voigt is the second. They are running unopposed and its vote for two.

The board also voted to approve a co-op of fall sports with Granton which will include football, volleyball and cross country. The vote was not unanimous, however. Two board members, who voted no, felt that as Granton didn't provide information that was asked for; they must not have much of an interest. There was also worry that adding Granton athletes would lessen the amount of playing time for Neillsville athletes and it could potentially move Neillsville up a division which could equal a greater challenge in getting into the playoffs.

On the reverse side, three members, who voted yes, felt that the potential move up in a division shouldn't matter because Neillsville should be focusing on academics and sports. It was also mentioned that this item has been brought up in the past and has created the alienation of Neillsville's neighbor. They felt that approving this would help thaw that frosty relationship.
