Representative Bob Kulp Proud of Rural Wisconsin Initiative

Thursday, January 14th, 2016 -- 8:13 AM

-This week, a group of Republican legislators hailing from rural areas across the state came together to announce the Rural Wisconsin Initiative, an initial package of seven pieces of legislation that they hope will jump start a conversation on opportunities in out state Wisconsin.

According to a press release from Representative Bob Kulp, the plan includes bills that will boost funding for broadband expansion grants, increase available resources for youth apprenticeship grants and tuition reimbursement grants for apprenticeships, create rural opportunity zones, expand a student loan repayment program for rural teachers, encourage STEM education in rural school districts, and bolster funding for the Wisconsin Rural Physician Residency Assistance Program.

Several legislators have joined Rep. Kulp, Representative of the 69th District, in supporting the plan, including Representatives Ed Brooks, Romaine Quinn, Travis Tranel, Joan Ballweg, Kathy Bernier, Mary Czaja, James W. Edming, Joel Kitchens, Scott Krug, Tom Larson, Jeff Mursau, John Murtha, Lee Nerison, Todd Novak, Warren Petryk, Keith Ripp, John Spiros, Rob Swearingen, Gary Tauchen and Nancy Vandermeer.
