Owen-Withee School Board Approves Base Wage Increase for Some Teachers

Monday, October 26th, 2015 -- 9:28 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board approved increasing the base wage for some of their teachers at their meeting last week.

The board unanimously approved increasing the base wage of seven teachers to the District base wage of $38,000. Theses seven teachers were "trapped" in the old salary schedule model of pay which meant that they were earning less that first year teachers hired by the district. The board also unanimously approved removing the language which restricted teachers' use of sick leave time for the care of a sick child.

Finally, the board began discussions regarding the date of the District's Annual meeting. There are two reasons for the desire to change the date in August. The first is to improve attendance at the meeting. The feeling is that late August is not a good time to attract people to the meeting.

The 2nd is that budget numbers available to the District are all estimates in August. They set a budget based on guesses and then they have to go back and redo the budget in October after all the numbers become real. The Board is looking at the fourth Monday in October as a possible date. More discussion on this topic will follow in the coming months.
