Two Wood County Families Hosting Farm Tech Days in 2018

Friday, October 23rd, 2015 -- 1:02 PM

(WDLB) -Two families just outside Marshfield will team up to host Wisconsin's Farm Technology Days, when the show goes to Wood County in three years.

The Heiman Family will team up with the Daryl and Brenda Sternweis family to host the show in July of 2018. JoEllen Heiman says these are exciting times for the long-time neighbors.

JoEllen said, "Two families working together to show the public just what you can do in agriculture. And I think this is a neat idea. I really do. Having two families combine, neighbor families, well-known families that, you know, new the neighbors for a long time! So, I mean, great! And I'm anxious for this to happen."

The Heiman's own and operate Nasonville Dairy and Weber's Farm Store, and Daryl, and his family, have been in the same neighborhood since the late 1870's.

Daryl said, "Kids are 5th generation. We started in 1879, so we've been here for a while. My father, in 1965, built the first free style barn in Wisconsin and we always try to continue that tradition."

Farm Tech Days is all about the latest technology, and the Sternweis family has just added robotic milking to its operation. The two family farm operations are just outside Marshfield, and Convention and Visitors' Bureau Director Matt McClean says his agency is gearing up for a big week of featuring what the Marshfield area has to offer.

Matt said, "We've played with some numbers here and using some State Department of Tourism data, we're conservatively expecting 10,000 visitors a day over 3 days. Hotels sold out for those 3 days and days and stuff before. A lot of the vendors are here a month or two before setting up. It's a huge production. We have a conservative estimate of about $1.8 million of economic impact during the 3 days of the show."

The Wood County show will run July 10th, 11th and 12th, and will be the 65th annual Farm Technology Days for Wisconsin. Wood County last hosted the show when it was in its 7th year in 1960.
