Neillsville City Council Approves Taxi Agency Fare

Saturday, October 17th, 2015 -- 7:06 AM

-The Neillsville City Council approved a taxi agency fare and amount at their meeting on Tuesday.

The city has decided that it will start charging agencies a fee over the regular rider's fee. The county already does this. The cost will be $5 and it will help the taxi on costs from year to year. The taxi will not lose money; they'll see a net gain of 40% taken off the city tax levy because of the fee. The council also heard some concerns from others present at the meeting. One resident brought up the Emerald Ash Borer situation, which was on their agenda for that night anyway.

A few other citizens in attendance were at the meeting to continue to discuss traffic issues on 2nd Street. They've seen improvement from people driving through their because of an increased police presence. However, they felt that people were still driving too fast and it was dangerous for people walking down the road. They stated they would like a stop sign at 2nd and Clay. They also said they'd like truck traffic re-routed off their road.

Chief Klueckmann did state that he's looked into that option and feels there isn't enough data to support a stop sign in that spot. Another suggestion he had would be posting the speed limit in that area as there are no signs on the street.
