After Another Heated Discussion, Neillsville City Council Approves New Parking Ordinance

Friday, October 16th, 2015 -- 9:28 AM

-The Neillsville City Council had another heated debate in regards to the no parking ordinance on 5th Street.

A couple residents in attendance at the meeting said that 5th street was the best place to stop and drop their child off or pick them up. They also said they walk their child into the school so they can get where they need to go and not be scared as the children are in pre-school and kindergarten. It was stated that the other area they're supposed to drop the students off doesn't have disabled parking and their child's classroom is on the other side of the building.

Chief Klueckmann said that with parking on school grounds, they can do what they want because it's their property. However, his concern is the safety issues on 5th Street. He said he can't overlook the safety hazards happening there and it will only be a matter of time before there's an accident and someone gets hurt.

In the end, the council did approve the new ordinance so there is no parking between 7am and 9am and 2pm and 4pm on 5th Street, Monday through Friday, while school is in session. The department will be monitoring that area and they will issues warnings and citations for those that ignore the new parking rules.
