-A Spencer man is facing a felony charge in Wood County Court due to the use of a smoke screen to flee from authorities. On October 10th, around 2:30am, a sheriff's deputy tried to stop a pickup truck for failing to stop at a stop sign. The pickup accelerated away and a modified exhaust began to spew thick, black smoke forcing the deputy to back off. Eventually, the deputy lost the truck.
An anonymous tip led authorities to 20-year-old Bailey Schiefelbein who admitted that he can control the amount of smoke emitted from his exhaust and he used it to escape the deputy. A $150 cash bond was set against him in court on Monday and if he is convicted and sentenced to the maximum amount, he could spend 3.5 years in prison.
