Marshfield Mayor Proclaims October 7th as International Walk to School Day in the City of Marshfield

Tuesday, October 6th, 2015 -- 8:14 AM

-Marshfield Mayor Chris Meyer has proclaimed the month of October as Walk and Bicycle to School Month and Oct. 7 as International Walk to School Day in the City of Marshfield.

The proclamation recognizes the importance of children's health and the negative health consequences from a lack of physical activity. Creating a safe environment for children to walk or bike to school, and teaching pedestrian safety, provides an opportunity for physical activity and reduces traffic congestion and air pollution.

The mayor further urges all students, parents, teachers, administrators, and schools within the Marshfield School District to participate in these events and to consider the safety and health of children this month and every month. On Oct. 7, students throughout Marshfield will be walking to school to celebrate the importance of getting physical activity.
