Woman Found Guilty of Neillsville Man's Death

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 -- 12:53 PM

-A woman charged with the death of a Neillsville man was found guilty during a jury trial last week in Jackson County Court.

Randi Rupnow was charged with homicide by negligent driving as she's accused of turning into the path of a motorcycle, driven by 28-year-old Jesse Rauk of Neillsville, on Highway 12/27 in the Town of Adams back in October of 2012.

Interviewed witnesses initially told authorities that Rauk was traveling well above the speed limit and he collided with Rupnow when she turned into a private driveway. Rupnow said she never saw the motorcycle. After an investigation, authorities determined that the road was flat, there was an excellent sight line and the crash was caused by Rupnow's decision to turn into the path of the motorcycle.

The jury heard from witnesses and examined evidence of the case most of the day. They were allowed to deliberate after the closing arguments just after 4:30pm. They discussed the case for nearly two hours before coming back and stating they found Rupnow guilty of the crime. Rupnow's $10,000 cash bond was converted to a $10,000 signature bond. A sentencing date has not been set.
