Clark County Sheriff's Department Investigating the Shooting of a Dog Near Spencer

Tuesday, September 15th, 2015 -- 11:48 AM

-The Clark County Sheriff's Department is investigating an incident near Spencer involving the shooting of a neighbor's dog.

According to WSAW, a sheriff's deputy was called to a home on Highway 98 Friday morning after a farmer of exotic and endangered animals shot and killed a German Shepherd. The farmer stated that there were two German Shepherds running on his property and they appeared to be feral. He said they were threatening cattle across the street first, then they came to his property and killed one of his chickens and scared a young antelope causing it to injure itself.

He said one dog then turned on him in a threatening manner and he shot it. He fired a warning shot in the air to scare the other dog away. The farmer had to call the department again after they received threats from several people and organizations for shooting the dog.

The Clark County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate the incident, no charges are expected against the farmer due to State Statute 174.01 and the department and WSAW did not provide any names for safety reasons.
