Friday, September 11th, 2015 -- 1:21 PM

-Storms producing very heavy rainfall moved through west central Wisconsin, including Clark County during the overnight hours of Sunday September 6th and the early morning hours of Monday September 7th.

Rainfall totals in excess of 6 inches were reported in western and central Clark County. This heavy rain resulted in numerous roadway and culvert washouts along with roads that became impassable due to high water over them.

This flooding has resulted in an estimated $800,000.00 in damage to local infrastructure. Damages reported include Town roads and County highways along with ATV trails and Forest roads. The west central and southwest portions of the county appear to have been impacted the hardest. Crews continue to work to make repairs and assess the damages caused by the flooding.

Initial damage estimates for Clark County ATV trails are at approximately $125,000.00. Clark County ATV trails are currently closed and are expected to be closed through this weekend and possibly into next week. Please check the Clark County website for updates at http://www.co.clark.wi.us/

Initial damage estimates for County highways are at approximately $150,000.00. County Rd M is closed between County Rd I and County Rd GG due to flood damage and will be closed indefinitely until repairs can be made. Motorists are asked to avoid this area and find alternate routes of travel.

Initial estimates for the Towns of Seif and Hendren are approximately $75,000.00 each. The Town of Mentor damage is estimated at approximately $240,000.00 including repairs that will be needed below the dam at Emerson Lake. .Other Towns reported damages estimated $1,000.00 and $10,000.00.

These damage totals are estimates and may change as additional information becomes available. Motorists are reminded that if they encounter roadways with water over them they should turn around and find an alternate route.
