Over a Dozen Dogs Die in Jackson County Fire

Friday, September 11th, 2015 -- 10:16 AM

-A fire in Jackson County resulted in the death over a dozen dogs and other small animals.

According to the Black River Falls Fire Department, the fire happened at a mobile home in the Town of Manchester on Pine Hill Road. The department responded to the home after the owner called and said he had come home from work to find it was already destroyed.

Firefighters believe that a treadmill may have sparked and started the fire. The owner of the home was a volunteer with the Jackson County Humane Society and often took in dogs for people. All the animals in the home were healthy and happy before the fire occurred.

The fire department was on scene for 2 hours, the owner is being assisted by the Red Cross and the department continues to investigate the fire along with the owner's insurance company.
