Marshfield Man Enters Plea for his Involvement in International Drug Network

-A Marshfield man pleaded guilty to charges filed against him for his involvement in an international drug network.According to an indictment unsealed in a Denver federal court, 50-year-old Kenneth Chastain, a representative of Avalon on 4th Street in Marshfield, purchased and marketed controlled substances under trade names and sold them through his retail store. This occurred between January of 2012 and May of this 2014.
The synthetic marijuana, known as spice, was sold by John Bowen and Daniel Bernier of Colorado, they acquired it from China, and then sold to stores in Colorado, Wisconsin, Illinois and Nebraska. All-in-all, nine people were arrested with ties to this case and it was part of a nationwide raid as the US continues to crack down on the illegal sale and purchase of synthetic drugs.
Chastain pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud the U.S. and violate the Controlled Substance Act. His sentencing will depend on certain factors, by he is still scheduled for a trial on May 11th.
