BloodCenter of Wisconsin Hosting Blood Drive at Memorial Medical Center this Thursday

Monday, December 15th, 2014 -- 11:28 AM

-On Thursday, December 18th, the BloodCenter of Wisconsin is hosting a blood drive at Memorial Medical Center from 11am to 4pm in the Recreation Room located on Ferguson Street.

Vicki Bohman, Community Recruiter at the BloodCenter, said this time of year is a hard time to get people to donate.

Vicki said, "This time of year is a challenging time to meet the local need for blood. We are the sole supplier of blood for the hospital in town and with everybody being busy getting ready for the holidays, it's a time of year we need people to donate, but obviously people are busy and there's also issues with people being sick and road conditions not always being the best."

"When you make a donation, one donation can potentially save up to 3 lives and the reason for that is we take the different components of your blood, the red cells, the platelets and the plasma, and each can go to help a different hospital patient."

Vicki said that if you come to donate, walk-ins are welcome, but you can make an appointment. You should be well hydrated and eat a good meal before you come, you can't be sick as the illness can be passed on, you should bring a photo ID and the whole process will take about an hour.

Vicki strongly encourages everyone to give the gift of life this holiday season because, as she mentioned, one blood donation has the potential to save the lives of up to 3 patients. Once again, that drive will be at Memorial Medical Center on Thursday, December 18th from 11am to 4pm.
