Owen-Withee School Board Discusses Conference and More

Friday, December 12th, 2014 -- 8:13 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board heard up an upcoming conference at their Monday meeting.

The state education convention in Milwaukee, sponsored by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, will take place in January. Rick Eloranta, Julie Wendler and Paul Heggemeier have indicated they are interested in attending.

The Owen-Withee Education Association is required each year to do an annual re-certification vote. The two units that the district has, teachers and support staff, held their votes in November. Both groups overwhelmingly voted to continue having the OWEA represent them. This means that as the time nears for salary negotiations, the OWEA will represent the teachers and the support staff.

Finally, District Administrator Bob Houts presented the board with a letter that covered the issues of school funding and other education related matters. With some minor editorial adjustments, the board approved the draft. Mr. Houts will bring the letter back to the January meeting for final approval and signatures. The letter will then be sent to Assembly Rep. Bernier and Kulp and Senator Moulton and to area newspapers.
