MORE INFO: Clark County Humane Society Rescues 28 Dogs from Puppy Mill

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014 -- 10:20 AM

-The Clark County Humane Society now has possession and is caring for the 28 dogs rescued from a puppy mill.

According to the Humane Society's website, 28 dogs were taken into the shelter after being rescued on Monday. The dogs surrendered were adult breeding dogs and no puppies were found. The shelter became aware of the mill on Friday and was given the go ahead for the rescue on Monday.

Some of the dogs are not in the best shape with long nails, poor teeth and their fur needs to be groomed. A vet checked them out on Monday and found that some also have ear and eye infections, missing teeth, one dog was pregnant and a tumor was discovered on another. However, the dogs are energetic and happy overall and in better shape than the Humane Society thought they'd be in.

The dogs were given up by a breeder that no longer met the state's breeding requirements. A dog breeder can only receive a license after an inspection which deals with several standards including the facilities dogs are kept in and what kind of care they'll receive. The dogs were living in poor conditions in a trailer.

The dogs are not up for adoption at this moment as they need to be groomed, spayed/neutered, given shots and more, but they will be ready in a couple weeks. The Humane Society is hoping the dogs will be ready to go to homes by the holidays. If you're interested in adopting a dog, you should begin the paper work now. The Clark County Humane Society has received inquiries on how people can help, which they are very grateful for. The shelter needs help caring for the dogs, financial assistance and supplies. If you're interested in helping in any way, you can learn more by contacting the shelter or visiting their website.
