Clark County Board of Supervisors Approves Budget and Tax Levy

Friday, November 21st, 2014 -- 8:13 AM

-The Clark County Board of Supervisors approved the 2015 budget and tax levy at their meeting on Tuesday of last week.

There was a slight amendment made to the budget. The board approved borrowing $810,000, in another resolution, to do more work on the roads this year seeing as the wheel tax failed back in October. This put the tax levy for the county at $14,619,871 with a tax rate of $8.09 or $59.48 per hundred thousand dollars of valuation.

The board also approved supporting a request by the Clark County District Attorney asking for an additional prosecutor for the county based on data provided by the Legislative Audit Bureau. A study determined that having only one prosecutor per 10,000 people in a population can lead to case mismanagement. The county currently has one prosecutor for a population of 17,300 people. The Clark County DA has applied for funding via a state budget request for an additional prosecutor to help with the case load.

The final item on the agenda, which failed, was an ordinance regarding nuisance animals in the county. This came about due to a situation in Thorp, but in the end the board decided this should be something handled by each city and not the county as a whole.
