Union Votes, Admin Reports and More at Owen-Withee School Board

Monday, November 17th, 2014 -- 8:14 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board discussed union recertification votes, the WASB State Education Convention and heard the Administrators' Reports at their meeting last week.

District Administrator Bob Houts told the Board that both unions, teachers and support staff, are in the process of voting on whether to recertify their unions. This is something that Wisconsin state law now requires to be done on an annual basis. The union members have until November 28th to complete their voting.

Mr. Houts also indicated that registration for the State Education Convention is now open for Board members. Rick Eloranta and Julie Wendler indicated that they will be attending. Bob Houts advised the Board that if they wished to attend, let him know and he would get them registered.

Finally, the board heard the Elementary Administrators' Report. Elementary Principal Lance Batchelor reported on the annual food drive the elementary school runs. The drive started November 4th and runs through November 21st. All proceeds go to the local food pantry and the Action Club is helping run this project. He also offered Congratulations to 6th graders Nathan Carpenter and Ray Nelson on their entries for the Veteran's Day essay contest. Both boys read their essays at the Veteran's Day assembly.
