Jackson County Correctional Institution Employee Sentenced for Delivering Cell Phones to Inmates

Tuesday, November 4th, 2014 -- 10:25 AM

-A Jackson County Correctional Institution employee was sentenced for delivering cell phones to inmates.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, staff members at the prison recovered two cell phones from inmates in the facility. Investigators traced the phones to 52-year-old Karen Robertson from Sparta who was providing drug and alcohol counseling at the prison. Investigators said that Robertson delivered the phones to the inmates and they would find ways to pay her for them.

Robertson was found guilty of obstructing an officer. The two felony charges of delivering illegal articles to inmates had the sentencing deferred assuming Robertson follows all the conditions of her probation. She was sentenced to one year probation for the obstructing an officer charge. Some conditions of her probation include no contact with the Jackson County Correctional Institution or its employees, she must get a job, but it can't be with any prison system and others.

She also owes the courts over $170.
