Minnesota Man Arrested in Jackson County this Summer Pleads Guilty to Charges Filed Against Him

Tuesday, November 4th, 2014 -- 9:36 AM

-A Minnesota man arrested in Jackson County this summer pleaded guilty to some of the charges filed against him.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, they responded to a gas drive-off at the Melrose Express gas Station back in June. A deputy made contact with the vehicle on Highway 54 near County Highway H in the Township of Albion. It was discovered during the stop that the vehicle was reported as stolen in Winona County. The occupants of the vehicle then began a short pursuit before stopping and fleeing on foot.

Deputies received reports that the suspects were following the Black River. Boats and canines were brought in and the suspects were located and taken into custody. The two men arrested were 19-year-old Joel Johnson and 18-year-old Mitchell Winslow both of Alberta Lea, Minnesota.

Winslow pleaded guilty to taking and driving a vehicle without consent and resisting an officer. A charge of 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety was dismissed on the prosecutor's motion and a charge of retail theft was dismissed and read in. A sentencing date was not set for Winslow yet and Johnson will enter a plea to similar charges on Wednesday.
