Neillsville Finance Committee Prepares 2015 Budget, Public Works Department

Monday, October 20th, 2014 -- 9:25 AM

-The Neillsville Finance Committee has been meeting for the past couple weeks to create the 2015 budget for the city.

During a Finance Committee meeting held on October 7th, the committee heard the budget for the Public Works Department. The department's budget had the biggest increase in the city from last year, increasing from $858,262 in 2014 to $990,852 in 2015.

Various lines of the Public Works budget had increases ranging from $300 up to $5,000 and decreases ranging from $500-$10,000, but the biggest increases contributing to the larger budget was the $45,500 increase in Machinery and Equipment Outlay for a new dump truck and $95,859 in street construction for a number of street projects proposed for 2015.

The proposed street projects for 2015 include the final paving for the work done on Grand Avenue this year and total reconstruction to Grand Avenue from West Second Street to West Fourth Street. There are several other non-budgeted street projects that will need to be done in the near future including on West 18th Street, West 5th Street, Prospect Street and East 6th Street which range in cost from $39,000 to $83,000.

A public hearing for the 2015 budget will be held during the first common council meeting in November.
