Wisconsin Umemployment Dropped to 5.5% for September

Friday, October 17th, 2014 -- 9:05 AM

-The last jobs report before the November 4th election contains a double-dose of good news for Governor Scott Walker.

The state Department of Workforce Development reported Thursday that Wisconsin's unemployment rate dropped to 5.5% in September and 8,400 private-sector jobs were added. The unemployment rate is the lowest since the recession in October 2008. It remains below the national rate of 5.9%.

The job growth puts total private-sector jobs created under Walker to about 111,000, but the monthly numbers are subject to significant revision. He had promised 250,000 by the end of this year.

Walker's Democratic opponent Mary Burke has argued he doesn't deserve another term because he failed to live up to his promise and the state's economy isn't performing as well as it should.
