Governor Walker Approves Neillsville Airport Project

Thursday, October 16th, 2014 -- 10:05 AM

-Governor Scott Walker announced on Wednesday a $732,078 project to reconstruct the Neillsville Municipal Airport's runway and taxiway as both are in poor condition.

Michael Gabor, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, said the project will complete a design and set up the bidding for reconstruction. The pavements were highlighted in a 2010 engineering study as falling below the recommended condition threshold for primary runways at General Aviation airports. Land easements for the approach clearing will also be pursued if needed.

The Federal Aviation Administration will cover most of the project contributing $670,473. The City of Neillsville and the State of Wisconsin will cover the rest with $30,803 and $30,802 respectively.

Neillsville Municipal Airport is one of 98 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan, which makes it eligible for state and federal funding.
