Clark County Board of Supervisors Looks at Proposed 2015 Budget, Part 1

Monday, October 6th, 2014 -- 11:36 AM

-The Clark County Board of Supervisors heard the proposed 2015 budget for the county on Thursday evening.

The Clark County Finance Committee had several goals and objectives that they strive to meet when preparing the budget. Those goals include meet the levy limit as imposed by the state, which limits the county to the maximum of new growth which was .995% for 2015, maintain the county?s infrastructure so future boards do not need to react to aging and broken systems, protect the effective delivery of essential services and maintain current discretionary services.

The committee also asked department heads to present a budget with a 1% decrease in expenditures and if the decrease could not be attained, then a wavier needed to be included in the budget information. 13 county departments were successful in getting the decrease and they were also asked to look ahead 5 years to identify major expenses in the future.

As this process continues, the Finance Committee is always concerned about the general fund for the county, as it may be needed to supplement other funds in the years to come. It may be need in the future to assure that the county maintains a positive fund balance and preserves its bond rating.

The budget public hearing, amendments and adoption will take place on November 11th.
