Clark County's Clerk Explains the Voter ID Law, Part 2

Tuesday, September 30th, 2014 -- 11:12 AM

-For the upcoming November 4th elections, the people of Wisconsin will have to show a photo ID to vote.

Christina Jensen, Clark County?s Clerk, talked about the acceptable forms of ID.

Christina said, "A Wisconsin DOT issued driver's license or ID card, a military ID card issued by the US Uniformed Service and a US passport book or card. These forms of ID can be expired, but only after the date of the most recent general election, which, currently, is the November 6th 2012 election."

"Other IDs accepted include a certificate of naturalization that was issued not earlier than two years before the date of the election, a diver license receipt or ID issued by the Wisconsin DOT, which is valid for 45 days, and an ID card issued by a Wisconsin accredited university or college that contains: date of issuance, signature of student, and an expiration date no later than 2 years after the date of issuance. This ID must be accompanied by a separate document that proves enrollment. The address on the document does not have to be current to be used as proof of ID."

There were no votes turned in before the reinstatement of the Voter ID Law here in Clark County, but if someone may have requested an absentee ballot before the law was reinstated, here?s what you need to do.

"No ballots were issued in Clark County before the Voter ID Law was reinstated, but for ballot requests that have been submitted by Electors, who are required to present photo ID, the clerk must immediately contact the Elector and provide notice that a copy of the photo ID must be submitted before the ballot can be issued. The Elector may submit photo ID by e-mail, fax mail or in person in the clerk's office."
