Clark County Health Department Offering Flu Clinics, Part 2

Thursday, September 25th, 2014 -- 10:20 AM

-The Clark County Health Department is going to be offering flu clinics throughout the county.

Do you wonder if you should get a flu shot? If you?re older than six months old then the CDC says, yes you should. Brittany Mews of the Clark County Health Department talked about the flu shot in more detail.

Brittany said, "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, recommends everyone 6 months of age and older to get a yearly influenza vaccine, unless they have had a severe allergic reaction to a flu vaccine in the past."

"Influenza is a contagious disease caused by influenza viruses that infect the respiratory tract including the nose, throat, and lungs," said Brittany. "It can cause mild to severe illness, sometimes leading to death. Influenza symptoms often begin suddenly, with fever, headache, tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, and body aches. The best way to prevent influenza is to get vaccinated each year."

Once again those clinics are free for children 18-years of age and younger. Adults can receive a flu shot at the clinic as well with the cost being $30.
