Owen City Council Reviews 2014 Budget

Thursday, September 18th, 2014 -- 11:01 AM

-The Owen City Council heard the 2014 budget review at their meeting on Tuesday of last week.

City Clerk Terri Ernst sent to each Council member, the week earlier, a copy of the YTD 2014 Budgets for City, Sewer and Water Utilities. One council member inquired why the public works has so many break down of duties and is it necessary to do it this way? The auditor needs this breakdown to keep track of duties completed.

Another council member inquired about the Clerk?s Payroll Account and why it appears it will go over budget. Clerk Ernst explained that the Clerk?s Payroll Account is adjusted by the auditor to delegate wages to the sewer utility and the water utility. Also, the same council member inquired as to why it appears the Public Works Payroll Budget will also go over budget. A lot has to do with a lot of overtime during the winter and all the freeze ups and broken water mains.

Finally, there was a question regarding the reservoir inspection costs and why it shows zero dollars spent. The cost of $2,600 was posted to the wrong account and will be moved to the correct account.
