Local Schools Receive Title I School of Recognition Award

-State Superintendent Tony Evers announced 173 Wisconsin schools have received the Title I School of Recognition award.

The Wisconsin Title I Schools of Recognition awards highlight schools that have demonstrated success in educating students from low-income families. To be eligible, schools must receive federal Title I funding to provide services to large numbers or high percentages of economically disadvantaged children and meet other achievement criteria.

Schools meeting the recognition award criteria will receive a plaque at an Oct. 13 ceremony at the State Capitol and $500 for use by the school. This year?s 173 Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition Award recipients include 133 elementary schools, 29 middle or junior high schools, and 11 high schools.

Schools in our area receiving the various recognitions include the Abbotsford School District receiving the Consecutive Award for winning for the 10th year in a row. The Greenwood and Owen-Withee School Districts have received the Consecutive Award for winning 5 years in a row. School districts in our area winning recognition for high progress include Granton, Greenwood and Colby. School districts in our area winning recognition for beating the odds include Owen-Withee, Abbotsford, and Wisconsin Rapids.
