Marshfield Woman Sentenced for Using Church Credit Card for Personal Purchases

-A Marshfield woman was sentenced for using a church credit card to make personal purchases.According to investigators, an investigation began in November of 2013 when a pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield noticed unusual activity on the church?s credit card. The unauthorized purchases went as far back as April of 2011 and the church had been deprived of over $22,000.
The pastor told authorities that the card was kept in the desk of 50-year-old Renee Thompson, an employee of the church. Investigators questioned Thompson and she admitted that she used the card to buy pre-paid credit cards and groceries.
Thompson was found guilty, due to a no contest plea, of three charges of theft of a business setting great than or equal to $2,500. She was sentenced to 5 days in jail and 6 months? probation. She also owes the courts over $2,800.
