Probable Cause Found in Clark County Court Regarding Drug Charges Against a Sheldon Man

Friday, August 29th, 2014 -- 8:13 AM

-A Sheldon man appeared in Clark County Court on Thursday for drug charges.

Back in June, 29-year-old Jeffrey Mertens was arrested on Highway 29 near Abbotsford after he passed a K9 unit at a high rate of speed. After he was pulled over, the dog indicated there were drugs in the vehicle and the officers found several bags of meth, a meth pipe, a torch and lighter, a digital scale, a pistol holster, a bayonet in a sheath and a bottle of urine. Mertens did tell authorities that he was going to Abbotsford to get more methamphetamine.

Probable cause was found during the preliminary hearing so the court proceedings for this case will continue. Mertens? attorney did request a substitution of judge and no future court dates have been set at this time.

Mertens is being held in the Dodge County Jail for other charges not related to this case. He has a $10,000 cash bond set here in Clark County and he?s been charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Manufacture/Delivery of Methamphetamine, Operating with a Detectable Amount of a Restricted Controlled Substance and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
