Two Parties Asking Federal Appeals Court Not to Release Documents in John Doe Probe

Tuesday, August 19th, 2014 -- 10:38 AM

-Two unnamed parties have asked a federal appeals court not to release nearly three dozen documents in a secret investigation into possible illegal coordination between Gov. Scott Walker's campaign and conservative groups.

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals plans to release 34 electronic files in the so-called John Doe probe on today. A John Doe probe is similar to a federal grand jury probe where information is tightly controlled.

The two unidentified parties filed a motion late Friday asking the court to keep the documents sealed. They argued that the files actually are 34 documents, including four affidavits loaded with personal information such as names and addresses that prosecutors used to conduct searches and issue subpoenas.

The parties argued the 7th Circuit should respect the John Doe's secrecy.
