Republican Party of Clark County Held Pints and Politics Event on Wednesday Evening

Saturday, August 2nd, 2014 -- 6:35 AM

-The Republican Part of Clark County held a Pints and Politics event Wednesday evening at Apple Valley Bar and Restaurant.

Common Core was the first subject talked about as the event got underway. The speaker mentioned a pending lawsuit against State Superintendent Tony Evers. They alleged that Evers did not, nor did any school board, hold public hearings regarding the implementation of the standards, which is illegal.

He also alleged that the governor and state legislators do not have the power to remove or block the standards without passing a law. He said the local people have control over whether or not they want their schools and kids learning the standards. He continued saying that if people in Clark County want changes; they have to elect the proper people to the school boards.

For the remainder of the evening, those present heard from Clark County Sheriff candidate, Gary Leichtman. The evening was supposed to be a debate between him and the current sheriff, Greg Herrick, who is also up for re-election. However, Sheriff Herrick was unable to attend.

Mr. Leichtman talked about a wide variety of topics including putting the department on the same page, weight limits on roads, the DARE program, Clark County?s communication woes and more.
