Neillsville City Council Hears Public Works Report

Thursday, May 29th, 2014 -- 8:20 AM

-The Neillsville City Council heard the Public Works Report before their meeting on Tuesday.

The usual amount of work was done in the city the past couple weeks, including cleaning, maintenance, watering, replacing old signs, patching pot holes and more.

Public Works Director Dave Flynn mentioned some other items of note form the past couple weeks. Last week on Monday, during the torrential rain fall, the city did have a sanitary system overflow. Dave said this happens with big rains and nothing can be done with it.

Dave was also asked to clarify the cost for residents if they don?t mow their lawn. He said that 5 days after a resident receives a letter telling them it needs to be done, the city will come and it will cost the resident $100 just to have them show up. It?s an additional $30 per hour for labor.

Dave also said that, weather permitting, they would start sealing cracks in the road this week, that will lead to painting and from there they?ll move into construction. One of the bathrooms in Schuster Park is also going to receive a major upgrade and that?s expected to be done before Heritage Days.

Finally, Dave said they?re going to have an inspection of the water tower by the high school per the order of the DNR. This is supposed to be done every 5 years and the DNR would like the tower drained. However, Dave said the last time this was done, it caused many problems and broken valves for the city because the pressure cannot be kept stable when it?s drained. Dave said that they, instead, will be using Dickson Engineering which will use a small robot to inspect the tower.
