Owen-Withee School Board Talks Health Insurance

Friday, May 23rd, 2014 -- 7:34 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board discussed the district?s law mowing contract and health insurance during their meeting last week.

The board discussed the lawn care contract that was entered into two years ago. Ray Lewan, owner of Klear Water Lawn Care, has sold his business to Larry Maier of Thorp. Larry submitted a contract similar to what Ray was charging.

The board was presented with data that showed how cost effective the lawn care contract was and voted to continue the contract with Maier?s. However, the board did instruct District Administrator Bob Houts to put the lawn care service out to bid after the 2014 mowing season and on a three year rotation after that.

Also, Mr. Houts repeated to the board that Security Health sent the district notification that the premium for health insurance would be going up 15.8% for next year. As this number is unacceptable to the district, Mr. Houts instructed the district?s insurance broker to send out health insurance out to bid.

The bids were due back by May 12th, too late for this board meeting, but Mr. Houts will notify the Board when the bid information is available.
