City of Owen and Owen Jr. Fair Board at Loggerheads Over Dollar General

-The City of Owen is currently in the middle of a heated discussion regarding the Owen Jr. Fair and the placement of a Dollar General in the city.During the public opinion portion of the Owen City Council meeting last week, the Owen Jr. Fair Board was present and expressed concern about the Dollar General coming to Owen and why the Fair Board was not made aware of it. Discussion continued with great concern on the new placement of fair rides as the Dollar General would like to purchase land for their store where the rides for the fair are usually placed. There are a few properties in the city that could be used for the store and they will be addressed by the City?s Building Inspector.
The council also approved to sell 3 ? acres at $5,000/acre to Brian Bredlau for a towing and trailer business in the East Side Commercial Park near the overpass East of Owen and plans must be submitted to the Council. The sale of another 10 acres was tabled until bids are submitted and opened on June 24th. The sale of the acres of land the Dollar General would like to purchase was tabled pending an agreement between the Fair Board and Council on the placement of the carnival rides.
