Tuesday, May 13th, 2014 -- 8:14 AM

-A Marshfield woman who stole over $10,000 from her mother appeared in Wood County Court on Monday.

49-year-old Holly Sterling was given power of attorney over her mother?s finances after she was placed into the Marshfield Care Center. Authorities began investigating Sterling when the Marshfield Care Center was owed $10,933.

Sterling?s mother would receive about $1,200 in Social Security benefits and $420 from a retirement account. Sterling said she used that money for bills. She was given time to repay that money, but she only made a few payments.

During her court appearance on Monday, Sterling did enter a not guilty plea to the charge filed against her which is theft of a business setting. If convicted and sentenced to the maximum amount she could spend 10 years in prison. She will appear in court again in July.
