Marshfield Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Using Church Credit Card

-A Marshfield woman entered a not guilty plea in Wood County Court Monday for allegedly using a church credit card to make personal purchases.According to investigators, an investigation began in November of 2013 when a pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield noticed unusual activity on the church?s credit card. The unauthorized purchases went as far back as April of 2011 and the church had been deprived of $22,251.66.
The pastor told authorities that the card was kept in the desk of 50-year-old Renee Thompson, an employee of the church. Investigators questioned Thompson and she admitted that she used the card to buy pre-paid credit cards and groceries.
Thompson has been charged with theft of a business setting greater than $10,000. She is free on a $10,000 signature bond which was continued during the hearing Monday.
